Better protection for tenants renting shops

What changes?
Better protection will be introduced for those renting shop premises. Changes include:
- A ban on contract terminations for renovation after the first rental period. The landlord can no longer end a contract after the first 5-year period of renting because he wants to renovate
- An obligation for the landlord to contribute to removal and relocation costs if he terminates a contract
For whom?
- Landlords renting out shop premises
- Those renting shop premises (shopkeepers)
When?
It is not yet known when this change in law will come into force.
Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (in Dutch).
