What changes?

Do you have young children? Or do you work in the childcare sector? The amount of childcare benefit will no longer depend on the number of hours worked.

The amount of childcare benefit you receive is currently (among others) dependent on the hours spend on work or business by the parent who works the least number of hours. For many parents this is complicates the application. Especially for parents working irregular hours, such as for instance entrepreneurs, it is hard to estimate the number of hours they work per month. This can lead to significant amounts they need to repay. It can also influence labour participation. The government now removes this barrier, so it will be easier for parents with young children to work.

For whom?

  • entrepreneurs with young children
  • entrepreneurs in childcare

When?

It is expected the Decree on childcare benefit will enter into effect on 1 January 2023.

You can express your point of view on this bill online until 22 March 2022, via a so-called internet consultation (in Dutch).

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch).
