What changes?

Are you a self-employed sex worker in the prostitution industry, clearly against your will? It will be a punishable act by law for your client to have sexual relations with you.

Does your client know or suspect you are forced into prostitution or that you are a victim of human trafficking? They can get a prison sentence of a maximum of 4 years or a €21,750 fine.

  • Self-employed sex workers

When?

The amendment is expected to come into effect on 1 January 2022.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or the Staatscourant (in Dutch).
