Effective date: 1 January 2022

What changes?

Are you an entrepreneur with a ship and do you use shore-based power? You may be eligible to pay less energy tax. An expected change in the definition of shore-based power (walstroom) means that ships using a direct connection ('directe lijn') may also use the low tariff. The government wants to promote the use of shore-based power instead of generator power.

For whom?

  • Entrepreneurs owning and/or operating ships

When?

The change is expected to come into effect on 1 January 2022.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch).
