Are you a healthcare provider with a BIG registration? You must actively communicate your BIG number. This way it is easier for your patients to check whether or not a healthcare provider is registered in the BIG-register. You must make sure that your BIG number can be found easily.
Are your name and professions not public right now? Then you do not need to actively communicate your BIG number.
Where should you state your BIG number?
You must always provide your BIG number when your patient asks for it. You should communicate the number everywhere you disclose your name and profession (or those of healthcare providers you employ or hire) for professional purposes. This are at least (and if applicable):
- on your own website (or you employer’s website) where you name is stated
- in your email signature in any email you send in your professional capacity
Where can you find your BIG number?
You can find your BIG number online in Mijn-BIG-register (in Dutch). You need DigiD or your BIG login data if you live abroad.
- BIG registered healthcare providers
The Amending act BIG number will enter into force on 1 January 2021.
Until then the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) will not enforce the current obligation to state the BIG number.
