Effective date: 1 January 2021

What changes?

Do you work with heat pumps or air conditioners? Heat pumps and air conditioning units that are placed outside of a home cannot make a noise that can be heard at louder than 40dB at the neighbours' houses. This only applies to newly placed machinery (newly built homes and renovations).

For whom?

  • Contractors
  • Building companies
  • Installers

When?

The noise limits are subject to the law on Almost Energy Neutral Buildings (BENG) coming into force. BENG is expected to take effect on 1 January 2021.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or the StaatscourantExternal link (in Dutch).
