Creating a Message Box account

This information is provided by: Netherlands Enterprise Agency

Dutch/resident entrepreneurs

Dutch and other resident entrepreneurs that are registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel, KVK) need to purchase eRecognition (i.e. electronic identification) first before creating their Message Box account. There is no other way. Recognised providers in the Netherlands offer various levels of electronic identification. To open a Message Box account you will need security level 2+ at least. These entrepreneurs can subsequently register their Message Box account with their registration in the Dutch Commercial Register. To do so, they can use KVK's change of registration formExternal link. By adding their Message Box name, they indicate that their account is available for receiving messages from Dutch governmental organisations.

Foreign entrepreneurs

Foreign entrepreneurs cannot use Dutch eRecognition tools. To purchase eRecognition, registration with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (Dutch Commercial Register) is mandatory and for most entrepreneurs this will not be useful or even possible. Therefore, these entrepreneurs need to register themselves with Answers for Business, which belongs to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. This registration will then allow them to open a Message Box account.
