Do you own or operate a zoo? And does your zoo face financial difficulties as a result of the corona crisis? You may be eligible for a subsidy to help pay for your fixed costs. This aplies to costs you incurred during periods you needed to close as a result of corona measures.
Second application period (November 2020-June 2021)
Because zoos have had to close more than once, the government has decided to extend the subsidy scheme for zoos (in Dutch). You could apply for this subsidy from 7 January 2022 through 11 February 2022.
Who can apply?
All zoos that have a licence since 9 November 2020 can apply for this support, if their turnover in the periods 9 November through 18 November 2020 and 15 December 2020 through 18 May 2021 was less than in the same period in 2019. Your zoo must be financially sound to be eligible. The subsidy is meant to help pay for fixed costs such as feed, care, and housing in the period you had to close. You can read how the subsidy is calculated and for which costs you can be reimbursed on the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (in Dutch).
You will have to draft a transition plan (in Dutch) in which you describe your plans and ideas for the future of your zoo. In this plan you should pay attention to animal welfare, education, and preservation. If you applied for this subsidy previously and you have send in a transition plan at that time, you do not have to draft a new one.
2 periods (outdoor or indoor)
If your zoo only has outdoor enclosures or both indoor and outdoor enclosures:
- You can apply for subsidy for Period 1. Period 1 is the period between 9 November 2020 until (and including) 18 November 2020 and from 15 December 2020 until (and including) 18 May 2021.
Does your zoo have indoor enclosures only? You were forced to remain closed up until (and including) 4 June 2021. You can apply for 2 periods:
- Period 1 - 9 November 2020 until (and including) 18 November 2020 and from 15 December 2020 until (and including) 18 May 2021.
- Period 2 - 19 May 2021 until (and including) 4 June 2021.
How to apply?
You can no longer apply for the subsidy for zoos COVID-19 November - June (in Dutch).
