Effective date: 1 January 2025

What changes?

Are you a producer of iron, steel, and aluminium (metallurgical industry)? Or do you produce building materials such as glass, tiles, and bricks (mineralogical industry)? The exemption for energy tax will end in 2025. You will no longer get an energy tax refund from 2025 onwards.

The goal of this change is:

  • to reduce the use of energy generated by gas and coal, and
  • to make it more attractive for companies to switch to clean and sustainable business processes.

For whom?

  • producers of building materials
  • producers of irons, steel, and aluminium

When?

The change in law is expected to enter into effect on 1 January 2025.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the Upper and Lower Houses (Eerste en Tweede Kamer) of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch).
