Refusing cookies in one go

What changes?

Consumers will no longer have to accept or decline cookies for each individual website. Instead, all internet users should be able to decide in one go if they want to accept tracking cookies via the settings in their browser. Tracking cookies trace and monitor personal data, such as internet use, to benefit advertisers.

For whom?

  • Internet companies that profit from selling personalised advertisements
  • Entrepreneurs who profit from showing advertisements on their website

When?

It is not yet known when the law on cookies will be final.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch).
