Speed limiter

This information is provided by Netherlands Enterprise Agency, RVO

Nederlandse versie

A speed limiter is a system that encourages or forces a driver not to exceed a certain speed. In the Netherlands, a speed limiter is compulsory for a number of vehicle categories. The Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) can tell you whether your vehicle falls into one of these categories.

Dispensation

With regard to a number of vehicles, you can apply to RDW for dispensation from the requirement to use a speed limiter. For example, this applies to tow and recovery vehicles.

Fitting speed limiters

If you have installed or newly adjusted a speed limiter in your vehicle, you must have this equipment inspected individually by RDW. To do so, please contact RDW (in Dutch).
