Introduction of APK diesel particulate filter test

This information is provided by

Netherlands Enterprise Agency, RVO

Effective date: 1 July 2022

What changes?

Do you inspect diesel cars and vans for the periodic technical inspections of motor vehicles (APK)? Then you must perform a particulate matter filter test with a special particle counter from 1 July 2022. This test replaces the current APK-free acceleration smoke test and the data extraction of the emission-related On-Board Diagnosis System (EOBD).

This is an amendment to the Vehicle Regulations and an important measure from the Clean Air Agreement (Schone Lucht Akkoord).

For whom?

Entrepreneurs and companies that carry out periodic technical inspections of motor vehicles (APK)

When?

This amendment is expected to come into effect on 1 July 2022

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch).
