Certification needed for work on gas appliances

This information is provided by Netherlands Enterprise Agency, RVO

Nederlandse versie
Effective date: 1 April 2023

What changes?

Does your company (or do you) work with boilers or gas-driven hot water tanks? Or do you handle plumbing for air supply or fume removal? You will need to be certified to install or maintain gas appliances or pipes. If you do not have a valid CO certificate of proficiency (CO-certificering), you are no longer allowed to perform these activities. This is then considered an offence. This legal obligation is introduced to prevent accidents with carbon monoxide.

CO-free certified companies have the CO-VRIJ logo (CO-free logo) and can be found in the gas combustion plants register (in Dutch).

For whom?

  • installation agencies
  • (self-employed) installation technicians

When?

Installers need a valid CO certificate from 1 April 2023.
