Minimum fee CO2 emissions to increase for industrial companies

What changes?

Does your business use 1 or more large industrial plants? And do these emit CO2 in the production or waste burning process? In 2024, you will pay an emission fee of at least €51.70 per tonne CO2. The current fee is €18. After 2024, the minimum fee will go up each year until 2030. In 2030, you will pay an emission fee of at least €71.10 per tonne CO2.

For whom?

  • companies with large industrial plants or electricity providers that emit CO2

When?

The change in law is expected to enter into effect on 1 January 2024.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the Upper and Lower Houses (Eerste en Tweede Kamer) of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch).
