Flight tax on long-distance flights going up
What changes?
Do you book flights for customers, employees, and business partners? Or do you fly for business yourself? The flight tax will go up for long-distance flights that emit more CO2. With this proposal, the Dutch government wants to collect an additional €257 million in tax revenue.
From 1 tax tariff to 3 tariffs
The flight tax is currently €29.40 per passenger for each flight. The Dutch government proposes to introduce 3 tariffs:
- short flights (within the European Union and flights up to 2,000 km) €29.40
- medium-haul flights (2,000 km – 5,500 km) €47.24
- long-distance flights (more than 5,500 km) €70.86
The 3 tariffs proposed by the Dutch government are based on the flight distance from Amsterdam. If you fly further (emitting more harmful substances) you will pay more tax. The tariffs will change in 2027 due to inflation.
For whom?
- entrepreneurs who travel by aeroplane for business purposes
When?
The change in law is expected to enter into effect on 1 January 2027.
Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the Lower and Upper Houses (Tweede en Eerste Kamer) of parliament. After publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch) the law can take effect.
