Inspectorate SZW becomes Netherlands Labour Authority

What changes?

As of 1 January 2022, the Inspectorate SZW will be named ‘Netherlands Labour Authority’. Reasons for this change are the introduction of the European Labour Authority (ELA) and the fact that the term Labour Authority is much more common and a better description of this body.

The official new name will be Netherlands Labour Authority, or in Dutch: Nederlandse Arbeidsinspectie. The abbreviation will be NLA for both the English and Dutch name. The new website address is

The Netherlands Labour Authority checks if businesses/employers comply with labour laws, and decisions and regulations on labour. These include the Minimum Wage Act, the Working Conditions Act, and the Working Hours Act.
