What changes?
Do you have internship students? If so, in future you will be required to pay an internship allowance. Students in senior secondary vocational education (MBO), higher professional education (HBO), and university education (WO) will be entitled to an internship allowance if their internship forms part of their study programme.
The main changes:
- You must pay an internship allowance to interns from senior secondary vocational education (MBO), higher professional education (HBO), or university education (WO).
- The amount of the internship allowance will not be specified in the law. Sectors and internship companies will agree on the amount themselves.
- Short internships and internships abroad will not be subject to a mandatory internship allowance.
- An internship agreement will be mandatory for internships in higher professional education (HBO) and university education (WO).
The introduction of a mandatory internship allowance is part of a wider package of regulations. With these measures the government aims to improve the quality of internships.
