Flight tax on long-distance flights going up
What changes?Â
Do you book flights for customers, employees, and business partners? Or do you fly for business yourself? The flight tax will go up for long-distance flights that emit more CO2. With this proposal, the Dutch government wants to collect an additional €257 million in tax revenue.Â
From 1 tax rate to 3 rates
The flight tax is currently €29.40 per passenger for each flight. The Dutch government proposes to introduce 3 rates:
- short flights (within the European Union and flights up to 2,000 km) €29.40
- medium-haul flights (2,000 km – 5,500 km) €47.24
- long-distance flights (more than 5,500 km) €70.86Â
The 3 rates proposed by the Dutch government are based on the flight distance from Amsterdam. If you fly further (emitting more harmful substances) you will pay more tax. The tax rates will change in 2027 due to inflation.Â
For whom?
- entrepreneurs who travel by aeroplane for business purposesÂ
When?Â
The change in law will enter into effect on 1 January 2027.
