The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations is responsible for developing government policy and preparing regulations and legislation. It works to ensure effective public administration and good governance.

What does the ministry do?

The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations is responsible for coordination, supervision, and implementation of policy and enables the work of other ministries. In Dutch, it is called Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties.

Ministry of the Interior and entrepreneurs

The ministry is responsible for implementing many laws and policies that affect entrepreneurs. Among other things, this includes:

  • Spatial planning: the allocation of land and water resources for sustainable economic and social development.
  • Environment and Planning Act: this act regulates the physical environment and sets out rules for the permits required for many commercial activities.
  • Building and housing: policies on sustainable construction, standards for construction products to help ensure fire safety, and regulation of the construction sector.

The ministry also works to ensure that businesses are adequately informed about the rules and regulations that affect them. It is responsible for the Business.gov.nl website, and also Ondernemersplein, which provides this information in Dutch.
