Do you want to perform activities in space from the Netherlands, such as launches or control and operational activities? You need a licence for space activities from the Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure (Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur, RDI). The RDI monitors compliance with the Dutch telecommunications Act.

Arrangements with the Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure

Before you apply for a licence to perform space activities, you must discuss your plans with the RDI well in advance (years). You will then draw up a cooperation agreement in which you agree on matters such as:

  • the goal of your activities
  • the position of your spacecraft in orbit
  • the entering into a cooperation agreement with the RDI

The RDI will monitor if you live up to the agreements.

Application and registration

You need to apply for a licence for space activities at least 6 months before the intended activities to the RDI (in Dutch).

If the licence has been granted, you need to register your spacecraft, satellite, and/or any other objects you will use with the RDI (in Dutch).

Online application and registration via Message Box

You can apply for a licence for space activities and register the spacecraft/satellite you use to the RDI also via Message Box. Message Box is a secure email system that enables you as an entrepreneur to exchange digital messages with Dutch government agencies.
