Buildings must meet fire safety regulations.

In some cases, you must notify the municipality that you are going to use the building; this is called a notification of fire safety-compliant use (gebruiksmelding brandveilig gebruik) .

You must apply for an all-in-one permit for physical aspects (omgevingsvergunning) for fire safety-compliant use.

You can find out if you need to make a notification by running the permit check on the online service counter Omgevingsloket (in Dutch).

Applying or submitting a notification

  1. Go to the online service counter Omgevingsloket (in Dutch).
  2. Run a permit check to see if you need a permit or if you must submit a notification.
  3. If you need a permit, you can apply for it at the online service counter Omgevingsloket. Log in with DigiD (for individuals) or eHerkenning (for businesses).
  4. If you have to submit a notification, you can do this at the online service counter Omgevingsloket. Log in with DigiD (for individuals) or eHerkenning (for businesses).

The cost depends on which environmental permit you apply for.

You must pay for an environmental permit, even if you do not receive the permit.

The municipality needs 8 weeks (standard procedure) to assess your application. The municipality may extend the period once by 6 weeks.

You can view the list of permit applications and decisions at Overheid.nl.

Do you want to object? Then the following rules apply.

  • For a standard all-in-one permit for physical aspects (8 weeks), you must file an objection within 6 weeks after the decision is published. How to do this is stated in the published decision.
