Municipality Coevorden: Fire safety measures for a building

You need an environmental permit for fire-safe use when:

• You use the building as a business.
• You can accommodate more than 10 people there. Consider, for example, a hotel, hospital or prison.
• There are more than 10 children under the age of 12 during the day. Consider, for example, a primary school or daycare center.
• There are more than 10 physically or mentally disabled people during the day. Consider, for example, a daycare center.

You can read in the Environmental Law Regulations, article 3.3, what you must send for a fire-safe use permit. The ‘Environmental Law Decree’ is part of the ‘Environmental Law General Provisions Act’ (Wabo). The Wabo regulates many permits for, for example, building, deviating from the zoning plan, when you need a permit and how you can obtain a permit.

You report fire-safe use when:

• There are more than 50 people in a building or other structure at the same time. This does not apply to a house/housing complex.
• You rent a home per room.
• Your building already meets the requirements for fire safety. These are listed in Chapters 6 and 7 of the Building Decree 2012.

You ensure that your building can be evacuated properly in the event of fire

You already have a fire alarm system. Or you have submitted the environmental permit or fire-safe use notification. Then you make sure you have a good evacuation plan.
