A building must be fireproof. For some buildings you have to declare that you are going to use it. You can apply for a permit for some buildings. You can do this via the online environment counter.

Description

There are national guidelines for the fire-safe use of buildings. Do you want to use a building? Sometimes you have to report this.

There are additional requirements for the fire safety of primary schools, day care centers and care homes. You apply for an environmental permit for these buildings. You are not allowed to use the building until you have the permit.

Do you have a fire safety system, such as a sprinkler system? Make sure you can show that the installation meets the requirements.

For more information, see the Helpdesk building regulations and fire-safe use.

More information

You report if:

  • you have an equivalent solution for ensuring the required fire safety
  • more than 50 people will be present in the building
  • you rent out rooms in the building to more than 4 people

You can apply for an environmental permit if, among other things:

  • your company or care institution has sleeping accommodations for more than 10 people
  • your company provides day care for more than 10 children under the age of 12
  • your company provides day care for more than 10 physically or mentally disabled people
  • the use of the building entails risks for fire safety

This is how you make a report or request a permit:

  • Go to Milieuloket online.
  • Do the permit check.
  • You can see whether you need to report or apply for a permit. You can do this directly.
  • Login:
    • for yourself: with DigiD
    • for a company: with eHerkenning

The cost depends on which all-in-one permit for physical aspects you apply for. You must pay even if your application is rejected.

The municipality will make a decision within 6 months. The municipality can extend this period once by 6 weeks.

You first give your opinion on the draft decision (opinion). Do this within 6 weeks. You can then appeal the decision of the municipality to the court.
