Municipality Amstelveen: Permit for gaming machines and amusement arcades
You need a permit for a gaming machine with which money can be won, such as a fruit machine. We call such a permit an _aanwezigheidsvergunning (_gaming machine permit). No permit is required for a pinball machine or other skill machine.
If you want to install a gaming machine, you need a gaming machine licence. You can only apply for a gaming machine licence if you have a high-threshold establishment. An establishment is high- threshold if:
- the space is used as a café, bar, restaurant or nightclub;
- you have a valid alcohol licence for this location;
- the activities are suitable for persons aged 18 and over.
Good to know
- You may install a maximum of two gaming machines (gambling and/or skill machines).
- You cannot apply for a permit if you primarily offer games, sports or culture in your business, such as a billiards café or darts café.
- Low-threshold locations such as canteens or snack bars cannot apply for a permit but may have two skill machines.
- If you want to own the gaming machines, you must also apply for an operating licence from the Netherlands Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit) (in Dutch). If you rent the machines, the landlord must have the operating licence.
