If you want to place a gaming machine, such as a fruit machine, you must apply for a licence. This permit is called an attendance permit. A gaming machine, such as a pinball machine, does not require a licence.
The municipality distinguishes between ‘high-threshold’ and ‘low-threshold’ establishments.
- High-threshold establishments include pubs, bars and nightclubs. These establishments are allowed to have 2 gaming machines, both slot machines and games of skill.
- Low-threshold establishments are, for example, snack bars and canteens. These establishments are allowed to have 2 games of skill (i.e. no slot machines).
- Compound establishments. These establishments are allowed to have 2 slot machines.
You need this information to apply for a gaming machine presence licence:
- your name and that of your establishment
- the type of establishment
- the type of machine
- the serial number of the machine
- how many gaming machines you intend to install
The cost is €226.50, at a gaming hall: €226.50 + the number of slot machines x €136.
You will receive a response to your application within 8 weeks.
You can object to the decision on your application. Do this within 6 weeks. Do you then disagree with the decision on the objection? Then file an appeal with the court.
