Registration of medical specialists

If you want to work as a doctor or a medical specialist in the Netherlands, you must register with the Royal Dutch Medical Association (Koninklijke Nederlandsche Maatschappij tot bevordering der Geneeskunst, KNMG) (Dutch). This applies to professionals such as:
- general practitioners
- geriatric care specialists
- intellectual disability specialist
- medical specialists
- social insurance doctors
- company doctors
How to register?
Before you can register with KNMG, you must be registered with the BIG register. You must also comply with specific training requirements. If you have a foreign diploma, you can contact KNMG's Foreign Diplomas Registration unit (Registratie Buitenlands Gediplomeerden) (Dutch) .
Re-registration
After registration you may use your professional title. The initial registration is valid for five years. Following this period, you need to re-register.
