Inspecting LPG systems
Do you want to install or inspect gas systems (LPG) in motor vehicles? You must apply for recognition (Erkenning Gasinstallatie) to the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW).
Applying for recognition
You cannot install or inspect gas systems without recognition from RDW. In order to obtain this recognition, your staff and equipment have to satisfy a number of requirements (in Dutch). You can apply for recognition (in Dutch) if you meet the requirements:
- You meet the conditions for the Basic recognition (Basiserkenning, in Dutch): your company must be registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KVK) and you have to submit a valid certificate of conduct (VOG)
- Your are or you employ at least 1 qualified LPG technician
Procedure after application
After your application, you need to follow a number of steps to complete your application:
- RDW will send you a certificate once your application is complete. You must install this RDW-certificate on your computer within 2 weeks after receiving it
- You must complete the declaration stating your company meets the requirements for recognition ('Verklaring voldoen aan de erkenningseisen') that RDW will send you, and return it
- You must have your measuring equipment registered in the Register Meetmiddelen APK (RME)
- An RDW inspector will visit to inspect your company. If the inspector approves, you will receive a letter confirming your recognition.
From then on, you must keep to the rules for testing and installation (in Dutch).
Deregistration of an inspected vehicle
If you inspected a vehicle you must deregister its LPG system (in Dutch). The RDW checks this with random sampling. Do you get a random test? The vehicle you have been working on will have to stay in your workshop. The RDW inspector will arrive within 90 minutes.
There are certain vehicles you cannot deregister, for example vehicles where the vehicle identification number (VIN) is missing or illegible, and vehicles without a Dutch license plate.
