In the Netherlands you are responsible for separating and disposing of your company’s industrial waste. If your municipality does this for you, you must pay the waste collection charge, also known as refuse collection charge (reinigingsrecht). If the municipality collects domestic waste from your business premises as well, you must also pay a waste charge (afvalstoffenheffing).
How much do you pay for waste collection?
In general, the rate of the waste collection charge is a fixed amount per address, per container, per delivered weight, or per volume. In some municipalities you also pay a waste charge for domestic waste, whether or not you offer household waste.
Certified waste collectors and waste treatment operators must be included on the VIHB list (in Dutch). You can use this list to check whether your waste collector is approved.
If you do not agree with the waste collection charges
Do you disagree with the refuse collection charge or the waste charge? You can file an objection. Check with the municipality in which your commercial building is located how you can file an objection.
