Do you import or export goods? And do you deal with the Customs Admnistration of the Netherlands? If so, you must have an EORI number. You use this number if, for example, you have to file a declaration. You apply for an EORI number free of charge at the Customs Administration.

What is an EORI number?

The EORI number is an identification number. EORI stands for Economic Operators Registration and Identification. You need this number if, for example, you export products from the Netherlands to non-EU countries and file an export declaration to do this. The EORI number speeds up the exchange of your data with other countries.

How to get an EORI number

Whether you need to apply for an EORI number or can generate one yourself depends on your circumstances. The EORI number is always free of charge. You must always apply to the Customs Administration for an EORI number if any of the following applies to you:

  • Someone else is filing customs declarations on your behalf.
  • You file customs declarations not only in the Netherlands but also abroad.
  • You have a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak).

Apply for an EORI number

There are two application forms for an EORI number:

Companies with their headquarters in another EU country can apply for an EORI number in that country.

Create an EORI number

You can create your own EORI number if:

  • your company has an RSIN number and
  • you file the customs declaration yourself.

New EORI number for sole proprietorships

Do you have a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak)? Your old EORI number based on your citizen service number (BSN) is no longer valid. You can only use the new EORI number. This number was sent to uou in a letter from the Customs Administration.

How can I look up an EORI number?

Do you want to find out whether an EORI number actually exists? Then do an EORI number check. Go to the EU database and type in the number. The EORI check then shows whether the number is valid.
