Are you or were you a fireworks retailer? Because of the Change of the Year Safety Act (Wet veilige jaarwisseling), you can no longer sell consumer fireworks to private individuals. Does this cause you to lose out on profits? You may be eligible for compensation.

What are the conditions for compensation?

You qualify for the compensation for fireworks retailers if:

  • You lose profit because of the Change of the Year Safety Act. This Act means you can no longer sell consumer fireworks to private individuals.
  • You are registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KVK).
  • You have 1 or more sales locations in the Netherlands.
  • You sold fireworks in December 2025.
  • You also sold fireworks in December 2022, 2023, or 2024.

View all conditions for this compensation (in Dutch).

How much compensation can you get?

You get compensation for the profit you lose. You also get an extra 15% of your lost profit. You get €3,500 per sales location for up to 5 sales locations.

How to apply?

You can apply for compensation to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO, in Dutch). You can apply from 3 November 2026 at 09:00 until 18 January 2027 at 17:00.
