Subsidy for the transition to circular plastics processing (SOPV)
Do you manufacture plastic products from polymers? Or do you add substances to polymers, such as fillers or additives that give the material specific properties? And would you like to use more recycled material or bio-based plastic for this? If so, you can apply for a subsidy to run trials with the transition of plastic processors (Subsidy for the transition to circular plastics processing (in Dutch)).
This subsidy allows you to conduct 1 or more production tests to determine how you can incorporate (more) circular plastic into your products.
The government wants more recycled and bio-based materials to be used in new plastics in the Netherlands starting in 2027. This is part of the National Circular Economy Program (in Dutch). The SOPV helps plastic producers make that transition.
When do you qualify?
You are eligible for this subsidy if you meet the conditions (in Dutch), for example:
- Your company has a production facility in the European part of the Netherlands.
- You conduct the production test at your facility in the Netherlands.
- The purpose of the test is to replace fossil-based plastics with more recycled or bio-based plastics.
- In the test, you use significantly more circular plastic than you currently use in your products.
- You have not received a subsidy for the same project under the Subsidy for trials with circular biopolyesters or the Subsidy for the transition to circular plastics processing (SOPV) (in Dutch).
How to apply?
You can apply for the Subsidy for the transition to circular plastics processing (in Dutch) from 6 October 2026, 9:00 a.m. until 15 December 2026, 17:00 hours to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
For your application, you need eHerkenning (electronic identification) with at least security level 2+. If you don’t have this yet, apply for eHerkenning first.
