Substance-related Occupational Diseases compensation (TSB)
Have you become ill due to working with hazardous substances? If so, you can apply for a one-off allowance from the Dutch Institute for Victims of Occupational Diseases due to Hazardous Substances (Instituut Slachtoffers Beroepsziekten door Gevaarlijke stoffen, ISBG) through the Compensation Scheme for Substance-related Occupational Diseases (Tegemoetkoming Stoffengerelateerde Beroepen, TSB).
When do you qualify?
You qualify for compensation under the Compensation Scheme for Substance-related Occupational Diseases if you meet these conditions:
- you have 1 of the following occupational diseases: allergic occupational asthma, chronic solvent-induced encephalopathy (CSE, also known as ‘painters’ disease’), asbestos-related lung cancer, silica-related lung cancer, silicosis, or paranasal sinus cancer or nasal cancer from wood dust
- you suffer from this occupational disease while working as an employee or self-employed person in the Netherlands (under Dutch law)
Read about the TSB scheme and more conditions at the ISBG (in Dutch). There is also a page with information in English about the scheme. The ISBG will check if you meet all the conditions (in Dutch) and advise the Dutch Social Insurance Bank (Sociale Verzekeringsbank, SVB) whether or not to pay out the compensation.
How to apply?
You can apply for the TSB to the ISBG. You must first register with the ISGB. To do so, you must first go through the steps in the checklist tegemoetkoming? at:
- lung cancer caused by asbestos (in Dutch)
- allergic occupational asthma (in Dutch)
- painter's disease (CSE) (in Dutch)
- Silica-related lung cancer (in Dutch)
- Silicosis (in Dutch)
After your registration the ISBG will call you and go through the application procedure (in Dutch) with you. The application procedure includes a home visit and an assessment of your medical information. You can prepare the home visit by collecting proof of your assignment or employment and have the answers ready to the following questions:
- Who was your employer or client when you came into contact with hazardous substances?
- When did you work for the employer or client?
- How did you come into contact with the substance(s)?
