What changes?

Do you work in shipping or security? Ship managers will under certain conditions be allowed to take on armed private security guards on merchant ships as protection from piracy in the Gulf of Aden.

Ship managers can ask the coastguard’s permission (in Dutch) to take armed private security on board.

Maritime security companies that supply armed security guards must have a Private Maritime Security Company (PMSC) licence to offer armed security for shipments. It is expected they can apply for this licencec to the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) from 1 February 2022.

The Bill to protect merchant shipping (Wet ter Bescherming Koopvaardij) will come into force on 1 February 2022.
