New applications for IOAZ no longer possible
There is a plan but the government has yet to decide
The government has proposed a change in rules. The proposal will also be debated in the Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament. The proposal may therefore still change, but it can be helpful to be aware of this in advance.
For whom?
- older entrepreneurs who are closing down their business due to insufficient income or because they become partially unable to work
What changes?
From 1 January 2028, you will no longer be able to apply for Older and Partially Self-Employed Income Support (Inkomensvoorziening oudere en gedeeltelijk arbeidsongeschikte zelfstandigen, IAOZ).
The IOAZ is a benefit for older entrepreneurs who close down their business because it is not producing enough income or because of partial incapacity for work. Are you aged 55 or over, but have you not yet reached retirement age? If so, you can still apply for the IOAZ until 1 January 2028. New applications will no longer be accepted after that date. If you are already receiving an IOAZ benefit at that time, nothing will.
When?
The change is expected to take effect on 1 January 2028.
