You need a market permit (marktvergunning) to sell products at a market.

Check whether there is a pitch available

First, find out which market you want to sell at, and check if there is a pitch available. See the list of markets in your municipality here , or contact the municipality via 14 020.

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You must have a permanent place of residence or stay.
  • You are registered at the Chamber of Commerce (KvK). You are the owner of a sole proprietorship or partner in a general partnership. If you have a private limited company (BV), your name must be on the extract from the Chamber of Commerce.
  • if you were already registered in the Re­gis­ter Am­bu­lan­te Han­del (Ambulant Trade Register): you have not been removed from this register (struck off) for misconduct or non-payment in the past 4 years.
  • valid identity document
  • if you are not a Dutch citizen: a valid Dutch residence permit
  • if you live outside the Netherlands: a copy of a document showing that you have a permanent place of residence
  •  your debit card

At the service counter of Marktbureau

You can also apply for the permit at your municipality’s service counter of Marktbureau, Amstel 1.  You can just walk in when the counter is open.

The application for a market permit costs:  € 55.90. Your registration is always valid up to and including December. Even if you apply for the permit in March, for example.

Additional costs

You must also pay market tax (marktgeld) for the use of municipal land (precario). The costs differ per market and are between €15 and €50 per day.

You can go to the market the day after you register.
