You need a market permit (marktvergunning) to sell products at a market. In the municipality of Nijmegen there is a market in the city center on Mondays and Saturdays and in the Hatert district on Wednesdays.
Check whether there is a pitch available
First, find out which market you want to sell at, and check if there is a pitch available. Contact the municipality by calling +31 24 329 90 00.
- You are registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.
- After the announcement of an available pitch, you have 4 weeks to apply for the marketplace permit.
- A selection committee assesses applications for permanent marketplace permits. The selection committee assesses the application on the basis of the product, the appearance of the booth and possible innovation. The selection committee then advises the executive board of the municipality on the application.
- valid identity document
- if you are not a Dutch citizen: a valid Dutch residence permit
- if you live outside the Netherlands: a copy of a document showing that you have a permanent place of residence
- an extract of your listing in the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce’s business register (KVK Handelsregister) (no more than 1 month old)
- a colour photo of your booth or stall
- a certificate of conduct (Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag, VOG) no more than 3 months old
You have 2 possibilities:
- Applying online with DigiD or eHerkenning (in Dutch). Please note: you can only apply if a pitch is available.
The application for a market permit costs: € 378,10.
Additional costs
You must also pay market tax (marktgeld) for the use of municipal land (precario). The market tax is:
- city centre: € 5,09 by the metre
- districts outside of the city centre: € 3,68 by the metre
- marketpitch vegetable market at Saturdays: € 4,76 by the metre
- marketpitch vegetable market at Mondays: € 3,90 by the metre
