Balancing responsibility for electricity supply

Do you supply electricity? You must have a Balance Responsible Party (BRP) in your organisation. The BRP must be recognised by TenneT

Working as a BRP

As a Balance Responsible Party or BRP (Programmaverantwoordelijke, PV), you are responsible for planning the daily electricity transactions (production, transport, and consumption). You provide this information to TenneT, (in Dutch, click on the flag for English or German) the Netherlands's Transmission System Operator, daily. The BRP ensures the grid is not overloaded or underloaded. All electricity suppliers must have a BRP.

Applying for recognition as a BRP

You need to be recognised to function as a BRP. You apply for recognition to TenneT.

There are 2 types of recognition:

  • full recognition: you may do the planning for all connections and trade transactions.
  • trade recognition: you may only do the planning of trade transactions.

You can find all recognised BRP’s in the BRP-register.

Online application procedure via Message Box

You can apply for a full recognition or trade recognition to TenneT by using Message Box. Message Box is a secure email system that enables you as an entrepreneur to exchange digital messages with Dutch government agencies.
