If you wish to organise a neighbourhood party, street party, flea market or other small event, you must notify the municipality. You must usually apply for a vergunning (licence) for larger events and events in the centre of Maastricht.
You must apply for an optochtvergunning (parade licence) if you wish to organise a parade.
On time
Please apply for your licence on time. The application deadline depends on the type of event you are organising.
- For an event requiring a licence: at least 8 weeks in advance.
- For a parade: at least 4 weeks in advance.
Are you organising a small-scale event that does not require a licence? Please notify the municipality at least 4 weeks in advance.
Notification requirement
In some cases you do not need a licence, but you must notify the municipality of your event. This is called a meldingsplicht (notification requirement). The meldingsplicht applies if the event meets the following conditions.
- You are holding the event buiten de singels (outside the city centre).
- The event will last 1 day or less.
- There will be less than 250 visitors at the event’s busiest time.
- You are not blocking off access for the police, fire brigade and/or ambulance in case of an emergency.
- You are not setting up a stage higher than 1 metre.
- You are not setting up a tent larger than 100 m2.
- Sound levels will be no higher than 85 dB(A). 85 dB(A) is the sound level of quiet background music and background noise.
- There will only be noise or music at the following times: Friday and Saturday: 9.00-00.30;Sunday: 13.00 -23.00;Monday to Thursday: 9.00-23.00.
You will need an event licence if your event does not meet the conditions.

You can apply online for an event licence (with you DigiD of eHerkenning).
Notifying the municipality of an event
You can notify the municipality of your event (with DigiD of eHerkenning).
Notifying the municipality of an event is free of charge.
For an event licence, you pay fees for work done by the government. These fees are called levies. You also pay levies for noise louder than 85 dB(A) (geluidsontheffing, noise exemption) or for serving alcohol (ontheffing voor het verstrekken van zwak-alcoholische drank, exemption for serving low-alcoholic beverages). The levies can be found in our legesdocument (levies document).
You also pay fees to install structures in the public space during the event. This includes tents, stages and bars. These fees are called precariokosten (sufferance tax fees). The precaria fees can be found in our precariodocument (sufferance tax document).
