If you wish to organise an event, you must notify the municipality and, in some cases, apply for a permit. You can check this online using the permit check (vergunningscheck).

For many small events, you do not need a permit. In such cases, you can provide notification of the event free of charge.

Find out more

Submit the application at least twelve weeks in advance. For higher-risk events, the timeframes are longer, up to 25 weeks.

When a permit is always required:

  • the event is a large gathering, such as a festival, celebration, show or jumble sale.
  • it may be attended by more than 150 people.
  • the event is on or next to a public road.
  • the event makes it necessary to close a road.
  • the event may disrupt the emergency services, such as the police or ambulances, for example due to a road closure.
  • you expect noise nuisance.
  • there will be music after 22.00 on a Sunday to Thursday, or after 23.00 on a Friday or Saturday.
  • you are installing large objects such as tents, bouncy castles, bars or toilets.
