In the Netherlands, medical care providers must observe the rules from the medical treatment agreement from Book 7 of the Dutch Civil Code (DCC).
These rules stipulate the rights and obligations that apply to care providers and patients from the start of the treatment or the examination. Care providers will need a patient's consent before starting treatment. Patients are also entitled to information about the treatment. Other aspects of the DCC are the patient's right to inspect their medical records and the right to confidentiality and privacy. Medical examinations also fall under the DCC rules.
