Mandatory 3-day cooling-off period for door-to-door and street sales
What changes?
Do you sell products or services door-to-door or on the street? In future your customers will be entitled to a 3-day cooling-off period before you can enter into an agreement with them. This is called the cooling-off period for door-to-door and street sales.
During these 3 working days you cannot:
- conclude a contract with the customer
- contact the customer about the sale
This way customers will have time and peace of mind to read through your information and compare offers. You can enter into an agreement after these 3 days. The existing reflection period of 14 days after concluding a contract remains unchanged. Within that period, customers can still cancel the sale without reason.
For whom?
- entrepreneurs selling goods or services door-to-door
- entrepreneurs selling goods or services or on the street
When?
It is not yet known when this change in Book 6 of the Dutch Civil Code (Burgerlijk Wetboek) will take effect.
Consultation: you can give your opinion on this proposal until 10 October 2025 (in Dutch)
Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the Lower and Upper Houses (Tweede en Eerste Kamer) of parliament. After publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch) the law can take effect.
