Lorry drivers must register border crossings

This information is provided by

Netherlands Enterprise Agency, RVO

Effective date: 2 February 2022

What changes?

Do you work in international transport? Lorry drivers need to record the country they enter when they cross a border. They must register this manually in the tachograph. The driver must enter the country code at the border or at the first possible stop.

When a truck is fitted with a smart tachograph type 2 (smart tacho 2, SMT2), this requirement will be void for that truck. In that case the border crossing will be registered automatically.

For whom?

  • truck drivers
  • transport companies
