Prohibition on degassing for inland tankers while sailing

What changes?

Do you work in inland shipping? There will be a national prohibition for inland tankers on degassing while sailing. Inland tankers often release harmful vapours from cargo residue into the open air in order to clean the ship. As this is harmful to your staff and the environment this will be forbidden.

  • inland skippers
  • shippers
  • storage companies

When?

It is expected this change in regulation will come into effect on 1 July 2024.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet known. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree, and publication in an official State publication (Staatsblador the Staatscourant, (in Dutch).
